Children's Star Class
The Star class is an answer to the question "What's a funeral anyway?" Art Linkletter coined the phrase " Kids say the darnedest things." As in life, kids say the darnedest things and and the darnedest questions about death. If the questions about the birds and the bees make parents uncomfortable, questions about death will lead to some of the most difficult and emotional moment's parents can face.
The Star Class help's children learn about death and funerals and teaches practical ways for each interested child to participate.
Usually provided during the first 25 minutes of the Private Family viewing. By directing the children to the Star Class, parents are free to express emotions and thoughts they might otherwise be uncomfortable showing. Once the join their parents, each child will bring a craft (gift) they have specially made. Psychologically, this gift is known as a transitional object, providing the child the security of a familiar object when first entering the viewing room. Some will immediately walk up to the casket and share what they just learned, other will be more deliberate. Grief and it's expression will be as individual as the child. The Star Class provides an opportunity for them to actively participate in remembering and celebrating with this family.
