Even though almost a year has passed, I had to leave a message. I have to agree with everyone else in that Mr. Budek was an awesome teacher and a very kind man. He escorted me to my Senior Dinner in 1987 and I will never forget him as long as I live! He would call people "moose ticks", remember that?! Love and peace to his family.
-Vanessa Schoals

Joe was my High School Biology teacher in the school years of 1974-1977. We spent many hours working on the fish tanks he kept in his room. Another student, Bob VanWinkle went with Joe to Albion to purchase more fish for this aquarium at his own expense. All 3 of my children also went to Columbia and were fortunate to have him as a teacher or substitute. He truly will be missed.

Mr. Budek was one of my favorite teachers as well. I learned so much from him, not just as a teacher, but as a friend. I just want to say thank you for everything that you have taught me, and may you rest in peace.

Mr. Budek was so kind to everyone and always had a smile. He was one of my favorite teachers. My thoughts go out to all that were close to him. He will be missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Budek's passing. I sincerely hoped one day to have shared with him how much he influenced and helped me through a difficult time in my life. He was more than a teacher, he cared and had compassion for all living things. Having hindsight now, I know that Mr. Budek was one of my angels put here to help me through a difficult time. He had an amazing warmness and light about him that I will always carry with me. He is a very special soul, may God bless him and his family and friends.
-Emily (Plate) Davis

I was lucky to have Mr. Budek as my seventh grade science teacher, and to see him many times long after I graduated from CCHS in 1997. He was such a kind man, funny, generous, and always had a cheerful smile on his face. He was one of my favorite teachers, and people. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I had Mr. Budek for chemistry in high school at Manchester High. He used to smile when he would ask me what I learned from my experiment, and I would tell him "nothing". I wasn't very good in chemistry, but I remembered him when I took chemistry in college, and was amazed that I passed both semesters. I now have a masters degree in nursing. I was sorry to see him leave Manchester, but I'm sure his students in Africa appreciated getting him.

Mr. Budek will always be one of my favoite memories of high school. He was always so involved with the sports and that made me proud to work with him at the sporting events, you could tell he enjoued that. He was a wonderful part of the Columbia School District and became one of my friends after I graduated. My thoughts and prayers are with you. A former student.
