His Legacy… George Gerome Wiertella, 98, passed away December 9, 2019. He was born on October 6, 1921, in Creighton, Michigan to John August Wiertella and Mildred G. (Neuman) Wiertella. George married the love of his life, Marian (Rickel) Wiertella, May, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio. He will be remembered as a lifetime employee of Ford Motor Company in the steel division. George was very proud of his service with the Army and fought in World War II and the Battle of the Bulge. He was an avid outdoorsman. George loved to hunt, fish, bowl, and play golf. He was also a long term member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Wayne, Michigan. Most of all, George was a devoted husband and father. His family meant the world to him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
His Family… George will be missed by his children, Larry (Joann) Wiertella, Shirley (John) Forrester, and Bryan (Margie) Wiertella; brother, Ron (Beverly) Wiertella; and 5 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marian Wiertella (2008).
His Farewell… George’s family and friends will gather Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 4:00-8:00pm at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel. His Community Farewell will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 11:00am (10:00am gathering) at Peace Lutheran Church, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Pastor Larry Courson will serve as celebrant. Memorial contributions are suggested to Arthritis Foundation of Michigan or the American Diabetes Association of Michigan.
