Alan Heinig Obituary

Alan Todd Heinig, 68, of Howell, Michigan, passed away on February 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and devoted children. He was born on May 14, 1956, in Howell, Michigan, to Alvin and Oveta Heinig. Alan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, whose love and kindness left a lasting mark on everyone he met. He enjoyed camping trips and traveling to Aruba with his wife. Anyone who knew Alan knew how much he loved his dog (Remmy) and his truck—often, if you saw the truck, Remmy was sleeping inside. In his early career, Alan was a dedicated sheriff’s deputy for the Livingston County Sheriff's Department, where he spent 26 years protecting and serving his community. He took enormous pride in his work, including his time with the Livingston County SWAT team and as a court officer in the 44th Circuit Courthouse. In addition to being a public servant, Alan was an incredible instructor, invested in teaching defensive tactics, concealed weapons training, and much more. His children would say there was rarely an interaction or event with their dad when he wasn’t teaching them a lesson. After retiring from the Sheriff’s Department, Alan went on to become the Security Supervisor at Thai Summit in Howell, Michigan, where he spent 10 years cultivating a safe work environment for hundreds of employees. Everywhere he went, Alan was greeted with smiles, hugs, and laughter. Alan is survived by his wife, Michelle Heinig, and their dog, Remmy. He was a proud father and leaves behind his four children: Tanya Heinig (Melissa), Alan Heinig (Colette), Jennifer Flagg (Todd), and Andrew Heinig. He was also a loving stepfather to Jordan Law (Paris) and Lauren Law. A devoted grandfather, Alan also leaves behind twelve grandchildren: Ethan, Hayden, Samantha, Emma, Zach, Andrew, Carter, Tenley, Peyton, Josephine, Lincoln, and Eden. Alan is survived by his siblings: Pamela Heinig, Julie Heinig (Jone), Bryan Heinig (Christine), Victoria Nulty (Penny), and Lynda Heinig, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings Kris Heinig (Linda) and Kevin Heinig (Ruth), along with his parents, Alvin and Oveta Heinig. Alan made many choices throughout his life, but in the time before his passing, he made the most important one—he cast his vote for Jesus, devoting his life to love and service to his community. He now rests in the arms of the Lord, rejoicing in eternal life. Alan’s family will be hosting a celebration of life on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Family Life Wesleyan Church, 3720 Rowley Road, Williamston, MI 48895. A visitation will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service led by Pastor Ron at 11:00 a.m. Immediately after the service, a luncheon will be provided at the church for anyone who wishes to gather together and find comfort in sharing memories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Livingston County First Responder Benevolent Fund, which provides financial and personal support for first responders in need due to injury, sickness, disability, death, and other extraordinary circumstances affecting them and their families. Donations can be sent to: LCFRBF C/O Rick Boisvert Brighton Fire Department 615 W. Grand River Brighton, MI 48116 (810) 229-6640
