Anna Maria Maddock, age 66, of Brighton, MI passed away on April 12, 2026.
Anna Maria was born on September 16, 1959, in Lincoln Park, MI to Yolanda and August Vacca. She married the love of her life, Edward Maddock, on May 30, 1980, in Allen Park, MI. Their 46 years together were filled with love, faith, devotion, and family.
Anna will be remembered as a beloved mother, educator, and woman of Faith. She worked as a teacher at St. Cyril of Jerusalem School in Taylor, MI, before pausing her career to raise and homeschool her sons in their early years. Devoted to caring for people with disabilities, she was an advocate for the deaf community, and a beloved educator and friend to individuals with Down syndrome and autism, forming lasting friendships through Allen Park Parks and Recreation, St. Frances Cabrini, and Brighton Area Schools. She continued her education at Madonna University with a specialization in American Sign Language, which she applied when she returned to work as an interpreter for deaf and hard of hearing students in Brighton Area Schools. The Spirit shone brightly through Anna as she carried out Jesus’ call to help others.
Anna enjoyed both watching and playing competitive sports, especially tennis and - later in life - pickleball. While she passed on her competitive spirit to each of her children, she also shared her kindness and sense of humor, teaching them to not take things too seriously. She was deeply involved at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, volunteering to teach Catechism classes and supervising volunteer retreats for young adults. She prayed daily for anyone asking for support, and in 2018 she made a pilgrimage to the holy site of Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, an adventure that brought her much joy.
Anna will be missed by her loving husband, Edward Maddock; sons, Zachary (Aliki) Maddock, Joshua (Joanne) Maddock, and Jesse (Rachel) Maddock; grandchildren, Philippos Maddock, Bowen Maddock, and one expected in August; siblings Domenic (Nancy) Vacca, Carolyn Vacca, Jodi (Mike) Strzalkowski, and Linda (Dan) Kelly; cousins Debbie Lollo, Ben Lollo, Frankie Lollo, Louie Aquino, Karen Townsend, Annmarie Bach, Nicole Donato, and Ron Neeve; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Yolanda and August Vacca, brother August Vacca, and sister Julie Kail.
Anna’s family and friends will gather Wednesday, April 22 at 4pm-8pm, at Borek Jennings Funeral Homes, Hamburg, Michigan. Her funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 23rd at 10:30am, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brighton, Michigan, with the gathering beginning at 9:30am. Fr. Joshua Fons will serve as celebrant. Burial at St. Patrick Calvary Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Special Olympics of Michigan or the Brain Tumor Network in Anna’s memory.
