His Legacy… Bernard “Sonny” James Goodnough, 89, passed away March 18, 2026. He was born on March 25, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan to Bernard William Goodnough and Adeline (Michels) Goodnough. Sonny married the love of his life, Linda Williams, on July 30, 1960, in Redford, Michigan. Sonny loved deeply, and this was exemplified by the way he showed his love for his wife and family. When Linda fell ill, Sonny spent her final ten years by her side, taking care of her until her passing. He was never stingy with his love, he was all in. He will be remembered as a friend to all and someone you could always rely on for anything that was needed. He didn’t judge, instead approaching with understanding, kindness, and compassion first.
Sonny was a homebody, spending his time working in the barn, making repairs, or adding to his tool collection. He could often be found at his neighbors spending time with them, driving the tractor, pulling up stumps, and helping them work outside. It wasn’t until he turned 89 that his role became “Supervisor,” and he’d spend his time observing the work instead of digging in himself. Sonny’s generosity was immeasurable, anyone who knew him understood that he was not afraid to get his hands dirty and that nothing could keep him from helping.
His Family… Sonny will be missed by his children, Chris (Shelly), Tony (Debbie), Kim (Mark); daughter in law, Cris; siblings, Toni, Jack, Jan; grandchildren, Mindy (Matt), Dustin, Jordan, Amy (Sean), Jerry, Venus, Laura (Adam); great grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia, Isaac, Madelynn, Alex, Zoe, Lily; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Linda; parents, Bernard and Adeline; son, Todd; siblings, Donna, Shirley, MaryAnn.
His Farewell… Sonny’s family and friends will gather Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home in Fowlerville, Michigan.
