Betty Emilie Eagle (Schilk) of Howell, MI, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2025 at the age of 90 years old.
Born on September 10, 1934 to Walter and Clara Schilk, Betty was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She shared a deep love for family with her late husband Gilbert, whom she married on August 18, 1956. Together they had two children, David and Nancy. Thanks to the love they shared, she had four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Betty worked as a florist at Harry Miller. She was a MSU Master Gardener, with a true gift for cultivating beauty, and was an active member of the Howell Garden Club and Dearborn Herb Study Association where her wisdom and contributions will be cherished for years to come. She enjoyed time with friends during Bible Study at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church and was an active volunteer within her Church community. She will be remembered as a loving woman who would invite you in, cook one of her many signature dishes, and ask you to “stay awhile.” Her best days were spent in the garden, kitchen, and in the company of those she loved.
Betty will be greatly missed by her beloved daughter Nancy (Philip) Cushman, daughter-in-law Sara Eagle; grandchildren, Dr. Philip (Amy) Cushman III, Jessica (Tyler) Spooner, Kristin (Brett) Sheehy, Dr. Jennifer Cushman; her six great-grandchildren who brought her immeasurable joy; and sister-in-law Wanita Graham.
As heaven bids Betty welcome, her family finds peace in the reunion with her dearest husband Gilbert; beloved son David; siblings, Evelyn (Eugene) Scharr, Jane Schilk, Alice (Paul) Payne, James Schilk; and her parents.
Betty’s family and friends will gather on Saturday, February 22, from 3-6 PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Howell, MI. A Service of thanks and praise for Betty’s life will be held on Monday, February 24 at 11 AM on February 24 (10-11 AM gathering) at Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church, 2101 S. Hacker Rd.
