Betty Lou (Ely) Gnegy

Betty Lou (Ely) Gnegy, 76, of Howell, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025. She was born on January 18, 1949, and grew up in Whitmore Lake and Pinckney. Betty graduated from Pinckney High School in 1967.

Betty spent much of her life working alongside her family in their restaurant, Aunt Betty’s Restaurant in Pinckney. After her mother’s passing in 2002, Betty became the proud owner and carried on the tradition of welcoming friends, neighbors, and visitors. She retired in 2018 after selling the restaurant, leaving behind many loyal customers who had become like family.

She married the love of her life, Harold Gnegy, in 1987, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Betty was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved reading and sewing, passions that reflected her creativity and gentle spirit.

Betty is survived by her son Jamie and his wife Lori; her son Jason and his wife Rachel; and her grandchildren Brooke, Caden, Zander, and Grayson. She is also survived by her brother Butch Ely and his wife Hilda, as well as her nephews Brian (Karen), Bruce (Lisa), and Brad Ely.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Gnegy; her parents, Edmund and Mildred Ely; and her beloved grandson, Jake Gnegy.

Betty will be remembered for her kind heart, her dedication to family and community, and the countless lives she touched through her work and friendship.

Betty’s family and friends will gather Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM, at Borek Jennings Funeral Homes, Pinckney, Michigan. Her Community Farewell will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at 12:00PM, at Borek Jennings Funeral Homes, Pinckney, Michigan.  Memorial contributions can be made to a scholarship fund in memory of her grandson Jake Gnegy to “Takedowns, Tackles, and Teamwork."
