Betty Jean Harpe

BETTY JEAN HARPE 

(3/28/39 - 01/17/21) 

Our mom, Betty Jean Harpe, had a hug, a joke, a homemade treat, and a garage sale find for everyone she met.  If you went to her house, you could count on leaving with a tin of cookies, four new books, and an antique painting that she swore would be "worth a lot some day."   Betty was a strong, independent, smart woman who fiercely loved (and was fiercely loved by) her family.  Born in Detroit, MI, she married young and raised four kids.  After retiring from Farmington Public Schools, she started a second career as an antiques dealer.   

Betty is survived by three children, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, two sister-in-laws, and nine nieces and nephews.  She was an active member of her parish, Church of the Holy Family in Novi, MI, and she loved the many friends she made there.  

Betty was a wonderful cook (according to her brothers, "the best in the world"), an avid reader, a bargain shopper, and a lover of travel.  She was full of energy, always taking care of others, and never afraid to speak up and fight any injustice she saw.   

Although our mom will be sorely missed, we are comforted to know that she doesn't have to fight anymore and that she will be laid to rest with her son (our brother) and her two sisters.  The Roberts girls will be reunited.  We are grateful to Patti Lewis Care Home for the wonderful care our mom received.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association or The Trevor Project.
