His Legacy… Brother Thomas John Browne, FSC (“Brother Kevin”), 87, passed away unexpectedly January 26, 2021.  He was born on July 16, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan to Martin Browne and Molly (Leen) Browne. His interests were wide and varied, including hunting, downhill skiing, and reading on all manner of topics.  He became a Christian Brother in 1952, graduating from Catholic University in 1957, and later earning Masters Degrees from Manhattan College and SUNY.  He dedicated his life in the Catholic Church to serving his fellow man through teaching and missionary work around the world, including assignments in Jamaica, Antigua, Kenya, Nigeria, Mexico, and numerous locations throughout the United States helping the poor, the uneducated, the orphaned, the neglected, and the disaffected.  Indefatigable, he continued serving those in need until age 86, teaching night-school English classes of his own design to hundreds of non-English-speaking children and adults in New York and New Jersey.            

 

His Family… Thomas will be missed by his sister, Mary Ann (Paul) Carrier; sister-in-law Ruth (Mike) Leen; nephews Dr. John (Anita) Cooke, Christopher (Jeri) Cooke, Joseph Cooke, Patrick (Sarah) Cooke, Thomas O’Sullivan, John (Karen) O’Sullivan, John (Christine) Leen, Mike (Julie) Leen, Jim (Cindy) Leen, Tom (Anne) Leen, Paul Carrier, John (Alison) Carrier, Pat (Angela) McCallion, Mike (Cathy) McCallion, Joe (Michele) McCallion, Paul (Jennifer) McCallion; nieces Katie Cooke ( Pat) Russell, Hannah (Moshe) Cooke Ariel, Julie (Ken) Leen Western, Mary (Terri) Leen Gallagher, Anne ( Matt) Wood, Molly (Scott) Carrier Hamilton, Maureen (Jim) McCallion Brockmany grand nephews and nieces; and his fellow brothers in the Province of the de La Salle Christian Brothers. He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Molly Browne; brother Mike (Ruth) Leen; sisters Anna (Patrick) Leen Cooke, Margaret (Robert) Schlene, Mary (Patrick) Browne McCallion; brother-in-law Paul (Mary Ann) Carrier; nephews Tom McCallion, John McCallion, Hannah and John Leen, and Mary Browne McCallion. 

 

His Farewell… A Viewing will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at the Borek-Jennings Funeral Home, 7425 E. M-36, Hamburg, Michigan.  Catholic Mass will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 10:00am (9:00am gathering) at Saint John Paul II Parish, 5830 Simon K, Detroit, Michigan. Tom will be buried immediately thereafter at Mt.
