Brian Barber Obituary

Brian Allen Barber, 54, passed away April 26, 2020.  He was born on April 27, 1965 in Las Cruces, New Mexico to Allen and Marie (Holub) Barber.  Brian married the love of his life, Amy Lou (Roelofs) Barber, on July 9, 1988 in Muskegon, MI.

Brian served in the US Army and was a member of the Military Police Corp.  He served one year in Korea.  He credited his military life with providing him direction and lifelong friendships at an early age.  Brian earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Central Michigan University, and was a committed alumnus.  Brian spent his entire career in educational leadership, most recently being employed by Berrien Springs Public Schools.  He was a passionate advocate for students and their families, believing growth and learning was within everyone’s reach.  He was a co-founder of the original Muskegon Opportunity program (Muskegon Promise).  Brian enjoyed a full and meaningful life.  His faith, family and many friends sustained him from moment to moment.  Brian is survived by his wife, Amy and their three daughters, Emily Elizabeth, Grace Anne and Katherine Marie; his step brother Brent (Lyssa) Cooper, Sherry (Larry) Redder, Phillip (Deb) Carlton; step father, John Carlton; sisters-in-law Kim (Jonathan) English, Fae (David) Diepstra; mother-in-law Millie Roelofs, half-sister Jessica Kelly and numerous wonderful aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Brian was proceeded in death by his mother Marie Carlton; father Allen Barber and his brothers Daniel and James Barber, and his father-in-law, Don Roelofs.

His community farewell will be held at a later date and time due to the  constraints we are currently facing.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (cff.org).  Please leave a message of comfort for Brian’s family at 1-877-231-7900, or sign his guestbook at www.borekjennings.com (Borek-Jennings Funeral Home).
