Carol Ann (Campbell) Thiry

Carol Ann Thiry nee Campbell, age 94, passed peacefully at home on July 7, 2026.   

She was born on Sept. 5, 1931, in Green Bay, WI. to Whitney and Irene Campbell.  

Carol grew up with a passion for living. She made lifelong friends in high school with whom she spent weekends at her family’s cottage on Green Bay.  Always an athlete, she danced, skated, and played many sports as a youth. Carol graduated from Green Bay West High School and then worked at Kraft Foods. She was a competitive golfer, playing in the Kraft Foods Golf League.

Carol married Jim Thiry, a graduate of Green Bay East, in Green Bay in 1953, and proceeded to create a family of seven children. Jim’s career took the family from LaPorte, IN, to Ann Arbor, MI, to Fairport/Rochester NY, and finally back to Ann Arbor and Pinckney MI. They found a property on Strawberry Lake in Hamburg Township in 1979, where they lived the rest of their lives.

Carol was an avid bridge player and jigsaw puzzler. She enjoyed hanging with lady friends over a cup of coffee or lounging with friends at the Georgetown Country Club pool while her young children enjoyed the water. As her brood left the roost Jim and Carol travelled widely, but especially loved St John USVI and snorkeling. They traveled the well-worn path back to Green Bay for many Packer home games at legendary Lambeau Field, and to spend time with old friends. They also followed the Packers to road games all over the country.

Carol and Jim were devoted grandparents who played major roles in their grandchildren’s lives, providing childcare, and joyfully attending sports events, recitals, and performances. As the children became adults they were loved and supported every step of the way. 

Carol and Jim played key roles in the establishment of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Hamburg, MI, as well as the Hamburg Youth Soccer League in the township.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Daryl, her husband Jim, and grandson Tate.

Carol was lovingly cared for by all seven of her children in the family home for her last years. This was a profound blessing for all. They were ably assisted by Visiting Angels of Livingston County and Trinity Hospice. 

Carol is survived by her children: Steven (Madeline) and grandkids Heather and Kaitlyn (Marissa Bialek); Julie (Keith Peterson) and grandkids Nathan Lehman (Megan Davies) and great-grandkids Connor, Abby, James, and Reese and Sarah Mitchell and great-grandkids Elaina, Caris, and Isaac; David (Clara) and grandkids Henry and Wyatt; Daniel; Tom (Carla Rosenberg) and grandkids Whitney and Rae; Ted; and Tim (Petey Campi).

We will all miss Carol’s easy laugh, the hours working jigsaw puzzles, and her delight in the natural world. Some of her last words were “I am so blessed” and ‘I am so thankful”.
