Carolyn Welcher Obituary

Her Legacy… Carolyn Loomis Welcher, 90, passed away January 18, 2025. She was born on July 1, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan to Herbert and Hazel (Moore) Churchill. She will be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Carolyn received a bachelor degree from Michigan State University and was on their homecoming court. Later, she received her master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University while teaching Junior High Home Economics for Livonia Public Schools for many years. After that, she was a sales representative in kitchen and food specialty products. She was great at sales and met many local makers that made Michigan themed gift items and they wanted her help to sell their products to gift shops all over the state. That venture became Michigan Made Distributing, and if you have ever purchased something from a gift shop in Michigan, it’s very likely she helped get the product on the shelf. In 2015, Carolyn married the love of her life, John M. Welcher, in Gaylord Michigan. She volunteered with her husband “Jack”, at the First Presbyterian Church of Gaylord, and at the Pigeon River DNR Station. They spent many happy winters in Fort Myers, Florida. Carolyn enjoyed many outdoor activities like fishing, camping, sailing, and cross-country skiing. The skills she taught others continued to bring her joy: sewing, quilting, cooking, baking. Her greatest love throughout her life were her cats; she always had at least one in her home. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Her Family… Carolyn will be missed by her husband John “Jack” Welcher; her children, Lynda Loomis, Lori (Graham) Chapman and Scott (Kim) Loomis; step-children; Paul(Anna) Wessel, Julie (Corey) Harmon, Peter (Michele) Wessel, Marie Garrettson, Gayle Smith, Bill Welcher, Kathy Whitney, Keith Welcher and John M. Welcher, Jr.; grandchildren; Matthew(Jennifer), Jesse (Samantha), Stephen, Joshua (Christina) and Tully (Christiana); step-grandchildren; Alyssa (Heeho), Lydia, Kyle, Joe (Alex), Nichole, Lucas, Adrienne (Arjun), Sophie, Isabella (Stephen) and Abe; great- grandchildren Justin, Norah, Renee, Fiona, Sutton and Tully, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her first husband Don Loomis, second husband, Thomas Wessel, her brothers David and Donald Churchill and her parents Herbert and Hazel Churchill.
