Casimer Sobczak Obituary

His Legacy… Casimer Alexander Sobczak, 77, passed away on July 1st, 2026. He was born on April 29th, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan to Felix and Cecilia (Bieniek) Sobczak.  Casey was raised with his brother and three sisters and spent a great deal of time in his youth at the Boys and Girls Club of Southeast Detroit, where he would later serve as President. He attended St. Casimir High School where he excelled at athletics and academics and was the Salutatorian of his graduating class. He earned many academic scholarships, including a full ride to the University of Detroit where he majored in Electrical Engineering.  He also earned his Professional Engineering License, a very prestigious credential.  Casey spent his professional life as a facilities Director for various organizations from hospitals to retail chains to school systems.

Casey married Annette in 1971, and they proceeded to raise 5 children in their happy and loving home in Taylor, Michigan.  Casey was a devoted husband and an extremely supportive father.  He spent many hours watching dance recitals, attending sporting events (both in the stands and on the sidelines as a coach), teaching his children to ride bikes and then drive cars, and taking them on summer vacations.

Casey was raised in the Catholic faith and was a devoted follower of Christ. He blessed everyone with a sign of the cross on the forehead with every greeting and farewell.  Casey was an active parishioner and volunteer at St. Alfred Catholic Church in Taylor where his family attended Mass every Sunday.

After his first wife Annette passed, Casey met Mary Ellen and they married in 2011.  They lived in Woodhaven and then moved to Pinckney.  Casey and Mary Ellen traveled and enjoyed spending time with their large families.

Casey enjoyed playing golf, trips to the casino, Scrabble, poker, Polka music, and dad jokes.  In his most recent years, Casey was a staple at Rock Steady Boxing of Livingston County, an organization dedicated to helping people with Parkinson’s Disease.

His Family… Casey will be missed by his wife; Mary Ellen McDonald-Sobczak, his children; Joelle (Jeff) Schade, Christopher (Kristie) Sobczak, Mary Reddy, Sarah (Brian) Spoljarick, Amanda (William) Kaczur, stepchildren; Scott (Jessica) McDonald, Paul (Kendra) McDonald. siblings; Anthony (Antoinette) Sobczak, Barbara (Kurt) von Knipper, Ellen (Joseph) Staniak, Kathleen Sobczak (Jeanne Aichele). grandchildren; Alexandra and Nicolette Schade, Reilly, Tola, Jillian and Adelaide Reddy, Vincent, Isaiah and Joseph Spoljarick, Lena and Stanislawa Kaczur, Mark and Eve McDonald, Sofia, James and Dylan McDonald. He is preceded in death by his parents Felix and Cecilia Sobczak and his first wife Annette (Urban) Sobczak.
