Craig Francis Schenk, age 73, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2025. Born on September 4, 1951, in Akron, Ohio to John and Mildred (Roepke) Schenk, Craig was a proud graduate of Firestone High School and went on to earn a Master’s degree in Psychology. Though academically accomplished, Craig felt most at home working with his hands—as an electrician, gardener, mechanic, and woodworker.
Craig lived with a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. In his younger years, he was often found on the water—boating, water skiing, and riding his motorcycle with the wind at his back. He especially loved North Carolina’s Outer Banks, with Ocracoke Island holding a special place in his heart.
A self-described hippie and a lifelong prankster, Craig was known for his humor, stubborn pride, and generous spirit. He adored chocolate in any form and was a dedicated car enthusiast, especially when it came to Chevy Camaros—several of which he lovingly restored, maintained, and even donated to museums. He loved a good BBQ, his wood-burning stove, and time spent in the garden. His hands were never idle, and his mind never far from his next project.
Craig’s faith was quietly rooted in a foundation built by his mother and nurtured throughout his life. He was a man of spirit and heart, always eager to connect with others. He cherished time with family, especially his great nieces and nephew, and shared a special bond with the family dogs—who knew exactly where to turn for extra treats.
Craig is survived by his nephew and niece, Scott (Wanessa) Evans; great-nieces and nephew, Elizabeth, Catherine, and David; and extended family in Canal Fulton, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Mildred Schenk, and his siblings, Alan Schenk and Linda (Schenk) Evans.
A time to gather and remember Craig will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Howell Memorial Chapel in Howell, Michigan.
Messages of comfort may be shared at 1-877-231-7900 or www.borekjennings.com. Craig will be remembered for his laughter, his love for the outdoors, and a life lived with heart, humor, and hands always at work.
