Daniel Shauger Obituary

His Legacy… Daniel Fred Shauger, 79, passed away on July 11, 2025. He was born on July 10, 1946, in Midland, Michigan to Alfred and Loretta (Krzewinski) Shauger.

Dan met the love of his life, Mary Militello, in high school. The two were high school sweethearts and were married on September 9, 1967, in Bay City, Michigan. In their early years of marriage, Dan and Mary moved to Houghton, Michigan, where Dan earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Michigan Technological University.

Dan built a long and successful career working for various chemical companies. His work took him and his family across the United States and, at times, overseas—including extended stays in France and Africa. No matter where his career led him, Dan made sure to bring his family along and make time for his daughters. He approached fatherhood with great compassion, often supporting his daughters in their activities, including volunteering as a coach for their basketball, softball, and volleyball teams.

As a father, Dan prioritized the needs of his daughters before his own.

Dan had many interests, but few rivaled his love for weightlifting, which he began back in college—starting with homemade weights made from concrete. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and time spent outdoors.

He was a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather. Dan will be remembered for his dedication to family, leading many “Shauger adventures”, his work ethic, and the quiet strength and care he gave so generously to those around him.

Dan will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary Shauger; his daughters, Michelle (Edward) Shauger-Tuczak and Stephanie (Michael) Alessi; and his grandchildren, Hunter Alessi, Cecilia Tuczak, and Amelia Tuczak. He is also survived by his siblings, James Shauger, Allen Shauger, and Joyce Crawford; and by his in-laws: Margaret Remenar, Teresa (Bob) Wyma, Trudy (Lee) Avila, Fred Militello, Dominic (Cari) Militello, Joseph Militello, Jeanmarie Hagan, Rosemarie (James) Spencer, and Felix (Donna) Militello. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Loretta Shauger; his in-laws, Felix and Marguerite Militello; his aunt, Gertrude Campau; his brothers-in-law, Julius Remenar and James Militello.

His Farewell… Dan’s family and friends will gather on Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM (Rosary at 6:00 PM) at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel.
