His Legacy… David Joseph Sokol, 89, passed away March 15, 2023. He was born on May 2, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan to Joseph Sokol and Mary (Nawrot) Sokol. David married Midge “Mimi” Combs, on October 20, 1989, in Las Vegas, Nevada. David will be remembered as the rock of his family. He loved his children fiercely, and adored his grandchildren. David proudly served his country in the Army, and then went on to work for GM, retiring early in 1988. He enjoyed family parties, casino trips, playing cards at the senior center with friends, and watching Western movies. David loved traveling and camping. He always had to stop at every fort that he passed, a memory that his children now cherish. David was very loving, and always there for anyone who needed anything. David will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
His Family… David will be missed by his children, Michael Sokol, Ann (Mike) McMullen; son-in-law, Kevin Derkatch; grandchildren, Lauren (Jon), Nicole (Jeremy), Jessica (Jeremy), Beth (Brandon), Andrew (Savannah), Madison (Collin); great-grandchildren, Kaydence, Liam, Ava, Everly, Avery, Aiden, Evander, Charlie; and great-granddaughter on the way, Hailey. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Sokol; his wife, Midge “Mimi” Sokol, his first wife, Elizabeth Dusman; brother, Donald Sokol; daughter, Jackie Derkatch; and daughter-in-law, Kim Sokol.
His Farewell… David’s family and friends will gather Monday, March 20, 2023, from 4PM-8PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 11:00AM (10AM gathering), at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Pinckney, Michigan.
