Donald Elroy Globke

October 24, 1948 – January 10, 2025

Donald E Globke, age 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 10, 2025. After battling cancer. CMML.

Don is survived by his loving wife of nearly 49 years, Ellen (Demsky), and their two children, Emily Decker and Steven (Valerie) Globke. He was a proud, loving grandfather to Lucas and Sydne Decker, and Gracie and Mackenzie Globke. Brother-in-Law to Janis (Jim) Campbell and Kathe (Dan) Pope. Zoey, his English Setter, misses him too.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan to Elroy and Helen (Shields) Globke. He grew up in Livonia. Don was the oldest of nine siblings, Nancy Goldsborough, Marilyn (Glenn) Moore, James (Kathy) Globke, Natalie Globke, Patrick (Jill) Globke, and Elroy Globke. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elroy and Helen Globke and by his siblings, Arlene, Fred and Denise Globke, also brother in law, Jim Campbell.

Don graduated from Franklin High School, Livonia in 1966. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Lineman/Electrician during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of SSGT.

Don married Ellen Demsky on May 21, 1976 in Redford, Michigan. Don dedicated much of his life to his career. He served as a Building Maintenance Foreman for the City of Livonia for 34 years. Don acquired his Master Electrical license, before retiring in 2000. He loved his work and never took a sick day.

After retirement, he worked in facility maintenance at the Brighton Community Library for 15 years before enjoying a well-deserved retirement with his family and grandchildren at home.

In his personal time, Don was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, enjoying many seasons of hunting with his friends, family and dog. He loved fishing, especially on the Great Lakes, camping and kayaking. Yard work became fun once he got his zero-turn mower and other motorized toys. Don was a great bowler, spending time on teams and running the American Legion bowling tournament for years. He also did all of the electrical plans for the home he helped build in 1991. Don was a Boy Scout Leader for many years and eventually completed an Eagle Scout project alongside his son, Steven, in 1996. He was also a passionate reader and cherished the time spent with his family.

His farewell… Don's family and friends will gather on Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 2pm-7pm with a Rosary at 7pm at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Howell Memorial Chapel. His community farewell will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025 at (9:30am gathering) 10:30am with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Howell, MI. Donald's interment will be on Monday, January 27, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Michigan. Memorial contributions are suggested to the family for future designation.
