His Legacy…Donald Edward Wittmer, 80, passed away September 16, 2021. He was born on March 9, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan to Norbert Wittmer and Margaret (Gentner) Wittmer. Donald married the love of his life, Arlene Pickwick, on October 2, 1965, in Detroit, Michigan. Donald will be remembered as a wonderful dad and provider for his family. He was an avid writer for the Catholic Journal, was a history buff, and he loved economics. Donald graduated from Xavier University and joined the Army after graduating and would later go on to join the Naval Reserves. After a career in finance, he had a passion for teaching at private high schools in both Michigan and New Jersey. Donald enjoyed visiting the Jersey Shore and traveling with his wife, Arlene. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
His Family… Donald will be missed by his wife, Arlene Wittmer; his children, Linda(Mark) Hein, Colin (Karen)Wittmer, Shaun (Jenell) Wittmer; grandchildren, Brenden Hein, Conner Hein, Kiersten Hein, Sarah Wittmer, Megan Wittmer, Erik Wittmer, Avery Wittmer, Marin Wittmer, and Nolan Wittmer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Margaret Wittmer; sister Joanne Kleinsmith; uncle, Father Carl Gentner, and his mother and father-in-law Jeannie and George Pickwick.
His Farewell… Donald’s family and friends will gather on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Our Lady of Victory Church, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville, MI for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am (10am gathering). Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church & School, Chatham, NJ, where he took great joy in serving as an usher for 5 years.
