Donna June (Hempton) Kovalchik

Her Legacy… Donna June Kovalchik, 94, passed away on November 9, 2022.  She was born on May 12, 1928, in Port Huron, Michigan to John Hempton and Donna (Roberts) Hempton. Donna married the love of her life, Peter Kovalchik, on January 15, 1953, in Flint, Michigan with her father, who was a minister, presiding. She will be remembered as a very social woman of faith with a competitive edge. She loved playing games with family and friends and even though she loved her grandkids to no end, they knew they would have to earn a win when playing with her. Growing up in the church, Donna regularly attended worship, revivals, and an assortment of events. She had crock pots on stand by attending every church potluck or social gathering. Donna spent years on bowling leagues and also loved sports, cheering on the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings. In retirement, she traveled regularly with Peter to northern Michigan, Florida and Arizona, and loved going with friends to the casino.

Her Family… Donna will be missed by her daughters, Robin (Michael) Shollack, and Joy (Jerald) Tamas; sisters, Christina Chase, and Sharon Baldwin; siblings; grandchildren, Michael (Jaqueline) Shollack, Jennifer (Jarod) Duncan, Angela Tamas, Shaun (Keith) Finney, Emily (Adam) Dunne, Andrew (April) Shollack; great grandchildren, Megan, Grant, Keaton and Kalen; and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, Peter; brothers, Phillip, John and Peter; sisters, Shirley, Maryanne, and Lois.

Her Farewell… Donna’s family and friends will gather on Wednesday, November 16 from 1-8 PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Howell Memorial Chapel in Howell, Michigan. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 17 at (10 AM gathering) 11 AM, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Brighton, Michigan.  Father Paul Erickson will serve as Celebrant.
