His Legacy… Frederick Hurley, 87, passed away April 9, 2025. He was born on August 2, 1937, to Frederick and Frances (Griffin) Hurley. He attended Precious Blood Grade School and Catholic Central High School. Fred started his career at Old Wayne Workshop in Detroit creating custom lighting. After moving to Brighton, he worked as a United States postal worker for over 22 years. During that time, Fred delivered the Detroit Free Press as a second job in order to provide for his family. He was also a test driver at the GM Proving Grounds where he got to enjoy his lifelong love of cars. This passion carried into his post-retirement job when he worked for Conely Auto as a car transporter.
Fred married the love of his life, Rochelle Renier, on May 3, 1958. She was his best friend and they enjoyed all their life adventures together. Fred was talented in building and fixing just about anything. He loved a mental challenge and enjoyed doing puzzles and watching Jeopardy. Fred was also an avid sports fan. He liked watching games and attending sporting events for both his children and grandchildren. Fred also enjoyed listening to music, talking about cars and always loved a good joke.
Fred was a man of faith and a proud member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brighton for over 56 years. He was a Eucharistic Minister for the parish as well as a member of the St. Pats Dad’s Club for many years. He was selfless, fearless, humble and modest. Fred will be remembered as a devoted family man who was respected and loved by all who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his life.
His Family… Fred will be missed by his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Rochelle; his children, Erin (John) Longley, Sean (Julie) Hurley, Kevin (Jackie) Hurley, Meagan (Bill) Anderson, Colleen (Dave) Mohlman, Brendan (Brenda) Hurley; siblings, Don Hurley, Kathy Szmanski, Tim Hurley, Richard Hurley; grandchildren, Lauren (John) Greer, Tyler Mohlman, Mallory (Gary) Kienzle, Benjamin (Megan) Anderson, Emily Hadley, Ryan (Jenna) Hurley, Jacob Mohlman, Nathan Anderson, Dalton Mohlman, Alexis Hurley, Cameron (Kayleigh) Hurley, Caleigh Hurley; great- grandchildren, Harrison, Holden, and Hayden Greer, Annabelle and Qhuinn Kienzle, Daphne and Branson Anderson, Aurora and Lily Hadley. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Frances Hurley and brother, Daniel Hurley.
His Farewell… Fred’s family and friends will gather on Tuesday, April 15th, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM (Rosary at 6:00 PM) at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel. On Wednesday, April 16th 2025, the family will gather at 10:30 (9:30 AM Gathering) at St. Patrick’s Church in Brighton for his Community Farewell Service.
