Gary Lee Clinton (“Clintsy”), former Hamburg, MI resident, passed away on October 28th, 2020, surrounded by his family after a battle with an inflamed lung condition. He was 67 years old.
Gary was born in Springfield, OH on September 22nd, 1953, the son of Leeroy Clinton and Virginia Jones. He grew up in Fairfield, where he graduated from Carroll High School in Dayton, OH. He remembered those years fondly and cherished his return trips for reunions in the following years.
He met his wife, Deborah Blaesing, while working at General Motors. They fell in love and married on October 2nd, 1976. They started off in a small home in Clinton, MI, where they welcomed two beautiful children. They then settled in Hamburg, MI where Gary built their home in 1991.
In 1997, Gary and his family moved to Thalwil, Switzerland. The four years they spent there were some of the absolute best years of Gary’s life. He made lifelong connections with beloved family friends, he worked as a substitute teacher at the middle and high schools his children attended, and he sought out every adventure he could find.
He loved good food, playing poker with the family, gambling with his sister, fishing with his son, adventuring with his daughter, dancing, and music. He loved his family with all his heart.
He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Deborah Clinton, in addition to his daughter, Vanessa Aron; his son, Eric Clinton; his sister, Jaye Clinton; his aunt, Betty Sue Jones; and all of his extended family and dear friends.
A celebration of his life will be announced after it is safe to gather in public. In the meantime, please have a miniature Reese’s peanut butter cup in his honor; his favorite sweet treat.
Memorial donations may be made in his name to Heart and Vascular at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, or to the American Lung Association.
