Mattioli, Giacomo
Hartland, Michigan
His Legacy…Giacomo “Jack” Mattioli, 86, passed away on November 3, 2022. He was born on May 25, 1936, in Roccamontepiano, Chieti, Italy to Antonio Mattioli and Rosa Marinelli. Jack married the love of his life, Barbara, on November 24, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan.
Jack will be missed by many. At 19 years old, he came to the United States from Italy in search of a better life with nothing but a trunk full of dreams. He wrote his own rules and paved his own way. Through his creative mind, stubbornness, unbelievable work ethic, and strength he built a family empire. With his own two hands he built his family a home with enough land to share with his children. He also built duplex and commercial rentals. He loved to pour concrete, working at the duplexes, listening to Pavarotti, and playing poker. Over two generations, his family went from blue-collar immigrants to a family of college graduates with his two sons following in his footsteps as concrete contractors. His garden tomatoes and cucumbers were prized possessions and everyone raved over his fried peppers. His generosity to his children and grandchildren go unparalleled. He was an original.
His Family… Jack will be missed by his wife Barbara; his children, Alfred (Sheila) Mattioli, John (Tamara) Mattioli, Laura Smith, Nicole Mattioli; brother, Roberto Mattioli; grandchildren, Giacomo II, Anthony, Marissa, Santino, John, Dante, and Mallory; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alessandro Mattioli; sister, Iolanda Marinelli; and his daughter, Christina Mattioli.
His Farewell… Jack’s family and friends will gather on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 4-7 pm, and Thursday, November 10, 2022 from 1-8 pm (Rosary at 6 pm) at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Howell Memorial Chapel, 1700 W. Highland Rd. Howell, Michigan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November, 11, 2022, at 11 am (10am gathering) at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Howell, Michigan.
