Golda Jensen Obituary

The Family of Grandma Deanie celebrates her life and commemorates her passing on Monday, February 15, 2021.  Golda Nadine (Nadean) Jensen was born in Sandusky, OH on September 19, 1920, and celebrated her 100th birthday last September with family and friends.

Nadean was born to her parents Lucy Ann and Hartwell Henry Hoyt, and lived on 200 farm acres in Perkins Township, Sandusky, OH until April 1941 when the government exercised eminent domain during WWII, and sent her family, along with 135 other long-time farming neighbors, to other farm lands, with the Hoyts buying a 40-acre farm in Castalia, OH.  Since a child and into adulthood, Nadean was a member of the longest running 4-H club in America.  After graduation from Sandusky High School, Nadean attended Sandusky Business College in 1938-1939 and worked as a secretary for the George C Hill Agency in Sandusky, OH.

Nadean was married for 72 years to Warren W Jensen, “Pop,” who passed in 2014.  They married on New Year’s Eve 1941, just after the Japanese Pearl Harbor attack on December 7.  Warren joined the Marines, and after basic training, shipped out with the 3rd Division Marines to the Pacific.  Nadean followed Warren and lived in Brawley, CA, working for the Walter P Casey Insurance office while Warren served in New Zealand, the Solomon Islands, Bougainville Island, Guam, and Iwo Jima.  Due to the war, Nadean and Warren did not see each other for 27 months of separation, only communicating by letters delivered by the ships in port.  When the war ended, Nadean and Warren came home to Sandusky, OH.  Their son, Laron Lee Jensen was born in 1946, and their daughter, Luanne Kay (Bibbee) was born in 1950.

Nadean continued to work as a secretary for Margaretta Schools, Castalia, OH, for Grace Lutheran Church, and together with Warren, owned Nye’s Food Giant in Fostoria, OH for 17 years.  Nadean and Warren transitioned to their dream home in St. Petersburg, FL, where they lived, worked, and volunteered in non-profits (Neighborly Senior Services, Christmas Toy Shop) for 30 years.  For 10 years, until she was 90 years old, Nadean served as an inspector in St. Petersburg, FL voting elections.  She enjoyed scrapbooking, gel pen design, reading, travel, and being with friends and family.

Nadean and Warren moved to Howell, MI in 2011 to be near their daughter, son-in-law, and family. While in Howell, Nadean continued to volunteer, helping the Livingston County Gleaners Food Bank and Meals on Wheels.

Nadean is survived and missed by her daughter, Luanne Bibbee, son-in-law Steve Bibbee, grandchildren Tara Johnson (Scott) of White Lake, MI; Lisa Bibbee of Farmington Hills, MI; Jessica Bibbee of Lansing, MI; and grandson Jonathan Jensen (Stephanie) of Hong Kong. She is preceded in death by her son, Laron, and husband, Warren.
