His Legacy… Harold “Skip” Dietrich Richter Jr., 87, passed away May 16, 2023.  He was born on October 18, 1935, in Royal Oak, Michigan to Harold Richter Sr. and Thelma (Smock) Richter. Skip married the love of his life, Gwendolyn “Tiny” (Bennett), on June 16, 1962, in, Hamburg, Michigan. Skip was a Lieutenant with the Hamburg Fire Department for 29 years. During that time he also owned and operated Hamburg Garage until he changed to Skip’s Repair where he worked on antique cars and tractors, from 1983-present. He loved old cars, especially Fords. Skip was a “tinkerer” and loved to fix things. Skip was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing for blue gills and pike. He was very easy going and always had a smile. He was old fashioned and happy with the simple things in life. Skip adored his children and grandchildren and especially loved his wife’s home cooking. He lived on Hamburg Lake from 1940 until his passing and loved his town. Skip was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

His Family… Skip will be missed by his wife, Gwendolyn “Tiny” Richter; his children, Amber (Kevin) Wright, Bart (Patty) Richter; grandchildren, Hunter (Gracie) Wright, Alia Wright, Layla Richter;  great-grandchildren, Hazel Wright, Vivian Wright. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Thelma Richter; son, Matt Richter; sister, Donna; step-father, Ted Winkelhaus; step-brother, Jack Winkelhaus.

His Farewell…  Skip’s family and friends will gather Monday, May 22, 2023, from 2:00PM-8:00PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel. His Community Farewell will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 11:00AM (10AM gathering), at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel.  Pastor Larry VanSlambrook will serve as celebrant.
