Her Legacy… Helen Marge Engle went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 23, 2025. She was 99 years old, having been born on August 1, 1926. Helen earned a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State Teachers College and a Master’s degree from Wayne State University. She was a retired schoolteacher, who taught physical education, health and biology for 40 years.
In the past, Helen loved to travel. One of her favorite trips was to the beautiful Canadian Rockies with her friend, Ruth. Helen loved dogs, flowers and birds. She enjoyed working with colored pencils and reading, especially the Bible and mysteries by Mary Higgins Clark and Agatha Christie. For years, Helen sang with the Sweet Adelines. Being a long-term resident of the Brighton-Howell area, she was an avid Detroit Tigers/Lions fan. In addition, she loved to follow current events and share her opinions and concerns.
Her Family… Helen is survived by her sisters, Pat Colunga and Aileen Owens (Steve) and her brother, Michael Black (Barbara), plus many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Her Farewell… Helen’s family and friends will gather Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 10:00AM-11:00AM, at Borek Jennings Funeral Homes, 7425 E. M-36, Hamburg, Michigan. Her Community Farewell will follow at 11:00AM. Pastor Dan Quagliata will serve as celebrant. Her interment will be at the South Vigo Cemetery in Clark County, Illinois, where the graves of many ancestors are found.
