His Legacy…Jack Dwight Emery, 87, passed away March 26, 2021. He was born on November 27, 1933, in Cookeville, Tennessee to Lily Mae Emery. After Jack graduated from high school, he left the mountain & moved to Detroit, MI to work in the automotive industry. There he met Marie Hammons. They married September 25, 1954 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. They lived most of their married life in Garden City, MI until retirement, when they moved to Big Rapids, MI. They were snowbirds in Arizona, and Texas, before settling in Frostproof, Fl. After 52 years of marriage, Marie passed away on December 8, 2008. Jack married Andrea Nation in 2009. Jack & Andrea have lived in Zephyrhills, FL for the last eight years. They were married for 11 ½ years.
Jack became a Christian in 1985, and subsequently became a very active member of the Community Baptist Church in Garden City, MI, the Liberty Baptist Church in Reed City, MI, and the Clubhouse Church at Forest Lake Estates. He will be remembered as a caring and generous man who never knew a stranger. Throughout his career as crew chief of the utility specialists on the production line at General Motors Hydramatic, Ypsilanti, MI, he received awards for his innovative ideas in engineering from GM. He loved sports, he was an avid golfer, and enjoyed volleyball, shuffleboard, and woodworking. Most of all he loved spending time outside with family having Sunday dinners, camping and tubing the river.
His Family… Jack will be missed by his wife Andrea Emery; his children, David (Beth) Emery, Westland, MI, Phillip (Beth – daughter-in-law/Allison Koehler - Partner) Emery, Tampa, FL, Nancy (Tim) Frey, Saline, MI; grandchildren, April Emery, J.T. Emery; Step-children, Martha (Paul) Baker, Battle Creek, MI, Wendy Nation, Tampa, FL. He is preceded in death by his late wife, Marie Hammons Emery; Mother, Lily Mae Emery; Uncle, Albert Whittaker; Aunt, Louise Whittaker.
Jack’s Community Farewell will be held on 11:00am, Monday, April 19th, Victory Baptist Church, Zephyrhills, FL. David Toulson, Pastor.
His family and friends will gather for his Final Farewell at 6:00pm Friday, April 23rd at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, Plymouth, MI. Pastor Rennie Kaufmann will be officiating. As a precaution against the risk of spreading covid, the memorial dinner has been cancelled. Interment will be at the Parkhill Cemetery, Paris, MI. In-Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Rucki Hospice Care Center, Zephyrhills, FL.
