Bennett, James
Hamburg, MI
His Legacy… James Edward Bennett, 91, passed away May 24, 2026. He was born on February 1, 1935, in Hamburg, Michigan to Charles Bennett and Mary Alice (Davis) Bennett. Jim married the love of his life, Marilyn Borton, on September 25, 1954, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Jim and Marilyn founded the volunteer charity “Bennetts Beavers”, that took Jim’s passion for woodworking and created an organization that made handmade wooden toys for hospitalized children. Bennett’s Beavers serves families in Michigan and 18 other states, bringing smiles and joy to children when they need comfort the most. Jim enjoyed woodworking, fixing things, working in his yard and being outdoors. In his youth he was very active and played softball and hockey. He liked to play cards, especially euchre, and was competitive. Jim was very independent and an innovative problem solver. He loved his community and was proud to be from Hamburg. He owned and ran the Hamburg Dairy for many years from the Bennett family farm and was active in the volunteer Hamburg Fire Department in its early years. Jim loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
