James Plummer Obituary

Plummer, James

Whitmore Lake

His Legacy…James “Jim” Franklin Plummer, 76, passed away October 22, 2025.  He was born on August 9, 1949, in Iron Mountain, MI to John Plummer and Lucy (Powers) Plummer. Jim married the love of his life, Sharon (Kelm) Plummer, on September 6, 1975, in Southfield, MI. Jim will be remembered for his gentle strength and the kindness he shared with everyone he met. He enjoyed strolling through his neighborhood, always taking time to chat with friends and acquaintances along the way. A familiar face on the Lakeland Trail, Jim loved walking and biking its scenic path. He had an easygoing nature, never one to argue or raise his voice, and his quiet diplomacy made him the one people naturally turned to for guidance and support. Whether helping a neighbor with a project or lending a hand to family, Jim was always there, steady and dependable. His years working for the Ann Arbor News gave him an unmatched knowledge of the city’s streets, which was frequently helpful to his family and friends when navigating Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. Jim was the Fire Marshal and a volunteer fireman for South Lyon, showing the love for his fellow community. A devoted fan of University of Michigan sports, the Detroit Lions, and the Tigers, Jim took great joy in cheering for his teams. He also loved attending concerts, practicing yoga, and connecting with others through shared interests and conversation. Jim’s warmth, strength, and steady presence left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

His Family… Jim will be missed by his wife Sharon Plummer; his daughter, Elizabeth Jean Plummer; granddaughter, Rui Eloise Mitchell; and other family. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucy Plummer, his siblings Winifred Stankwitz, John Henry Plummer, and Mary Myrtle Crystal; Nieces and nephews, Ellen Plummer, Lauren Plummer, John Steven Plummer; his best friends Ric Misiak, Steve Gerlach, Steve Kuntz; and all his friends from the Ann Arbor News.
