James Calvert Willis, 72, a retired Detroit Police Department Narcotics Officer, passed away on August 16, 2023. He was born on January 31, 1951 in Pontiac, Michigan to James H. Willis and Violet Mae Laroue. Jim married the love of his life, Janet Sheehan (nee Raab) on July 21, 1989 in Novi, Michigan. He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, woodworking, and spent countless hours maintaining their extensive landscaping.
Additionally, Jim co-founded the Warthogs Motorcycle Club which has grown to over 1,000 members with chapters across the United States, Canada, and Norway. He had a unique and witty sense of humor which continued throughout his prolonged illness. He was known for his straight-forward outlook on life, as well as quoting funny and true-to-life slogans. Jim genuinely loved people and was a friend to everyone.
Jim will be greatly missed by his spouse, Janet and his daughter Jennifer (Jason) Carter, grandson Jason “JJ” Carter Jr, sisters Nancy DeLosh and Mary Louise (Ken) Knott, his brother-in-law Michael J. (Karen) Raab, along with his nephews and niece. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Violet Willis.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be sent to the Warthogs M/C, Howell Chapter, 5848 East Maple Ridge 37th Rd., Rock, MI 49880. Donations will be used to support the families of fallen Police Officers and Firefighters.
His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the American Spirit Center located at 10590 E. Grand River, Brighton, MI 48116. Jim's visitation will be held from 11:00AM-1:00PM with a Memorial Service at 1:00PM. A luncheon will follow the service directly on site after the service concludes.
