Her Legacy… Jean Romm Atkinson passed away peacefully at home on April 9, 2025, after a four-year battle with dementia.
She was born on August 19th, 1943 in Norfolk, Virginia to Catharine and Edward Romm. She attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Longwood College (now University) in Farmville, Virginia in the class of 1965. After graduation, Jean taught Spanish at the middle school level.
Jean married Brian Atkinson on June 24, 1967 at the Norfolk Naval Base Chapel. After many years as a homemaker, she re-entered the workforce as a pre-school teacher with the Dexter (MI) Community School District and retired in 2009. She was a longtime member of Dexter Gospel Church.
Her Family… She is survived by her husband and 3 children: Mary (John) Kozina of Concord Township, OH; Laura (Matthew) Cleveland of Brighton, MI, and Edward (Dorothy) Atkinson of Santa Cruz, CA, and 4 grandchildren: Evan, Catharine, Brady and Aria.
Her Farewell… Jean will be buried at the Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI, and a memorial service will be held in her honor at a later date.
