John Brock Obituary

John Martin Brock (9-12-1964 – 7-10-2022) of Pinckney, MI passed away in University Hospitals of Cleveland, surrounded by family and friends on July 10, 2022. He is survived by his mother, Jeanette Tracy Brock; his niece, Emma Brock Howard (Samuel) of New York City. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Reader Brock II; his brother, Kenneth Reader Brock III. He leaves behind other extended family members in California and Texas.

As a person with cystic fibrosis, John spent his formative, as well as adult, years supporting others with the disease; and for this, he is much beloved in the cystic fibrosis community. He fought bravely for his own life, and lived far beyond his life expectancy.

Growing up, John graduated from Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor in 1982, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and Boy Scouts. His strong faith, love, and determination were instilled in him by his parents, Jeanette and Ken Brock II, who were leaders in the Boy Scouts, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the church.

John was an active part of Shalom Lutheran Church in Pinckney, Michigan. John served faithfully in the areas of Technical arts as a sound and video engineer. John also served for 2 plus decades in the area of student ministries. There are literally hundreds of lives that have been touched by his love and commitment to students and their families. John was a faithful listening ear, a friend, and a mentor to so many. John had a deep love for Shalom and invested his time, talents, and resources into seeing the church impact lives with the message of Jesus. John's love for the Lord inspired countless numbers of people.

He was involved in the life of his niece Emma; as well as his nieces through his 21 year marriage to Diane Compton: Heather, Stacey, and Christina. Diane and John were close and dear friends for 43 years. He loved model trains and created a business building layouts for people all over the world. He enjoyed traveling, fine dining and photography.

His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Michigan-NW Ohio Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Shalom Technical Arts & Student Ministries, or the American Diabetes Association of Ann Arbor.
