John Zub, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on May 17, 2025, surrounded by love. Born on September 1, 1941, in Detroit, MI to Lottie and Stanley Zub, he was the second of nine children.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Karen; his sons John (Blanca) and Gregg (Sarah); daughter-in-law Jaima, wife of his late son Jerry; and his cherished grandchildren—Bianca, Riley, Karen, Allie, Bella, Camden, and Reagan—each of whom brought immense joy to his life. He also warmly welcomed Maxime, Trevor, and Larkin, the children of Gregg’s fiancée in his later years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry.
John spent his career at Detroit Diesel, where his hard work and dedication were hallmarks of his professional life. A man of few words, John had a quiet wit that brought both laughter and the occasional eye roll to those around him.
He had a deep love for sports and could often be found cheering on his favorite teams, the Detroit Red Wings, Lions, and the Tigers.
Always keeping busy, John was known for his many projects around the house and in the garage, where he brought care and precision to everything he did.
More than anything, he treasured time with his grandchildren, who brought joy and energy to his life in his later years.
John’s legacy is one of quiet strength, humor, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held at Herrmann Funeral Home on Saturday, May 24, from 10:00 am–12:00 pm with a service immediately following.
