Denton, Joy
Pinckney, MI
Her Legacy… Joy Elaine Denton, 70, passed away February 26, 2025. She was born on July 3, 1954, in Leslie, Michigan to Forrest Hampton and Carol (Chesley) Hampton. She will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, mother and friend. The daughter of a minister, she was a devout Christian, whose faith shaped her life and relationships. Her name was prophetic, as she brought joy to those around her with an always playful spirit. Her father instilled in her a love of jokes and puns, which she passed on to her children.
From a young age, she had a love and aptitude for sports, playing softball and tennis throughout her life. She was a unique woman working in the field of computers and IT, at a time when men dominated the field. A rarity among her generation, she taught her children to use computers, rather than the other way around. She played a key role in introducing computers to Lindbom Elementary School, helping to shape early technology education for students, and spent the last decade of her life administrating the science school computers at University of Michigan.
Her Family… Joy will be missed by her children, Justin (Antonio Morales Torres) Denton, Matthew (Amy) Denton, Shari Denton; mother, Carol Hampton; sisters, June (Glen) Ewald, Debbie (Bob) Gallamore; father of her children, Gordon Denton; and numerous, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father, Forrest Hampton.
