Judith Carney Obituary

Carney, Judith

Pinckney, MI

With heavy heart’s we announce the passing of Judith Ann Carney, 78, on January 16, 2024.  She was born on February 11, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan to Cyril Harveth and Margaret (Starr) Harveth. Judith married her high school sweetheart, Pat Carney, on August 21, 1965, in Detroit, Michigan. They went on to build their family of four children. After purchasing land from Pat’s grandparents, Pat built their family home in 1969, where they still reside today.  Judy did not take well to living in the country at first, but was a loving, supportive wife and stay-at-home mother. She found much comfort in adjusting and raising her family with the love and friendship of their next-door neighbor, Bonnie.

Judy and Pat built a life within the community. While her children were young, Judy substituted as a librarian and school secretary at the elementary school and served on the school bond committee.

She enjoyed being involved in the Jaycee’s, including serving as president. More recently she served on the library board.

For many years Judy and Pat had season tickets to the U of M football games. As a young mother of 4, she was still able to enjoy her favorite pastime activity bowling.

When her youngest entered Middle School, she decided to take on a job as receptionist at The Kitchen and Mollison Law firm in Dexter, Michigan. Her coworkers there became like family to her, and she would retire from there as office manager.

The year of her 50th birthday, Judy became a grandmother. Grandparenting was her favorite lifetime role. Her most enjoyment came from watching them in their activities; Michael with rowing, Maggie with robotics, Molly in softball, Jonathon in baseball and Spencer in football. With great happiness she felt blessed to be called Gigi when she became a great grandma.

Judy will be missed by her husband, Pat Carney; her children, Mike (Amy Carpenter) Carney, Meg (Mike) Sparks; daughter-in-law, Carol Carney;  bonus children John (Shari) Burg, Mary Helen (Peter) Young; grandchildren, Amanda Rinesmith, Michael Thomas Wood, Maggie (Adam) Wood, Molly Carney, Jonathan (Carly) Sparks, Spencer Sparks; step-grandchildren, Jessica (Kris) Jackson, Tony (Jennifer) Sparks, Mikey Sparks; great-grandson, Jackson Sparks; step-great-grandchildren, David, Hannah, Landon, Karter, Liam, Cheyanne, Tucker, Zander, Zayden, Lakely, Paisley; sister-in-law, Claudia Harveth, brother-in-law, James (Paige) Carney; sister-in-law, Ginger Carney; cousins, Joan (John) Kramer and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Cyril and Margaret Harveth; son, Patrick Joseph Carney II; daughter, Kathleen Ann Carney-Wood; and brother, Michael Harveth.
