His Legacy… Karl William Stander, 68, passed away February 26, 2026. He was born on February 21, 1958, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to William and Sandra (Amburgey) Stander. Karl married the love of his life, Sandra Koss, on November 9, 2003, in Fowlerville, Michigan. Karl will be remembered as someone who was a loving husband and took pride in each of his grandkids. In High school Karl was an athlete of two sports football and wrestling. Karl was a fireman from 1980 to 1991 in Ypsilanti and Dexter. He then went to Kensington Metro Park where he worked there as a master operator primarily but wore many hats on a typical workday. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, who knew him simply and lovingly as “Papa.” There was nothing that brought a bigger smile to his face than time spent with them whether sharing stories, teaching life lessons, offering a helping hand, or sneaking in a little extra fun when no one was looking. A man of remarkable skill and dedication, Karl was highly talented in his trade work. With his hands, he could build, fix, and create just about anything. He believed in hard work, doing things the right way, and leaving behind something solid and lasting. He loved riding his Harley, his adventurous spirit even led him to sand rails. Karl was also a proud member of Livingston Masonic Lodge #76 and Zal Gaz Grotto #34. Those who knew him will remember his loving heart, his kindness, and the steady presence he offered to everyone around him. Though he will be deeply missed, his love lives on in his wife, his grandchildren, his family, and all who were blessed to know him.
His Family… Karl will be missed by his wife, Sandra Stander; his children, James (Victoria) Koss; Sisters, Kathy (John) Nantell, and Kelly (John) Wickings; grandchildren, Caralena, Elliana, and Isabella Koss; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Sandra Stander, and his brother Butch Stander.
