Katherine Couture Obituary

The family of Katherine Couture and her beloved husband, Robert Couture, announce the funeral celebration of their lives to be held on December 19, 2024 at St Joseph Parish, 3430 Dover Street, in Dexter Michigan, with Father Brandon Walsh presiding. Visitation will be held from 10AM -12 pm with the funeral to be held at 12PM.

Katherine Joyce (Filipek) Couture died peacefully in her sleep on December 13, 2024 in Monroe, Michigan. She was born on August 25, 1954. Among the greatest blessings of her life was her marriage of 44 years to Bob. Due to Covid, it was not possible to celebrate his life and death in a funeral.  So it is a special gift that these two loving souls can share their home-going in this funeral mass. Robert was born on January 30, 1947 and died on April 20, 2020.

Katherine was the eldest of five daughters born to Marilyn Joyce Kisse and Henry Joseph Filipek.  From a young age her musical gifts were discovered and nurtured. She had a beautiful singing voice which she shared generously.  Through this gift she met her future husband, Bob, at a wedding in which she sang.  Before the night was over, he predicted they would one day be married.  This came true on October 25, 1975!

Together they owned and operated Bicycle Bob’s for many years and were an integral part of Monroe County Cycling.  Their greatest adventure was travelling to Peru to adopt their two sons, Christopher and Matthew, their most cherished blessings.

Katherine was a woman of many talents.  She had an incredible singing voice along with a prodigious song-writing and musical talent, which she used to bless others in weddings, choral direction, and a multitude of other settings throughout southeast Michigan.   Floral design, storytelling, quilling, and cooking are just a few of her other gifts, generously shared. Throughout her life, Katherine had a variety of roles, including: religious education director and teacher; liturgist; parish music director; Marriage Encounter leader; bookstore manager; Boy Scout den mother; and a paralegal.  Katherine was very well read and appreciated the written word.  She is lovingly remembered for her kind heart and giving spirit.

Katherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert, and her parents, Henry and Marilyn Filipek; sister-in-law, Pamela Couture, and brother-in law, John Roberts. Katherine is survived by her two sons: Christopher and Matthew Couture; her soon-to-be daughter-in-law, Michelle Russo, and grandson, Niko Russo; her four sisters: Carol (Randal) Desrochers, Mary (Thomas) Thomas; Barbara (Thomas) O’Rear; Susan (David) Hrit; and sister-in-law, Paula Roberts; brothers-in-law: Terry and Gary Couture, and many nieces and nephews.

Please join us in celebrating the lives of Katherine and Robert and share your memories of them at their visitation and funeral mass.  There will be a funeral luncheon immediately following at St. Joseph Parish Center in Dexter, Michigan

The family would like to sincerely thank the caring staff of Wellspring Lutheran services Monroe Campus; Heartland Hospice; and Dr. Schneider for their loving care of Katherine.
