Her Legacy… Katherine Lorna (Kemp) Schenk, 84, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026. Born on May 15, 1942, in Detroit, Michigan, she was the beloved daughter of Carl & Lorna Kemp. On June 28, 1968, Kathy married the love of her life, Thomas Schenk, in Redford, Michigan. Together they built a life of love, faith, and devotion to family. Kathy graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit before earning her nursing degree. She dedicated more than 40 years of service as a registered nurse in psychiatric care, where her compassion, kindness, and calming presence brought comfort to all she encountered. She was known for her loving, caring spirit, and her warm smile immediately put others at ease. A woman of deep Christian faith, Kathy was devoted to her church and found great strength and joy in her relationship with God. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and watching British television programs. She was also a loyal fan of the Detroit Tigers & Red Wings. Animals held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the companionship they brought her. Kathy will be remembered for her gentle heart, unwavering faith, and the kindness she extended to everyone around her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her Family… Katherine will be missed by her husband, Dr. Thomas Schenk; her children, Eric Schenk and Karen Schenk; siblings, brother, Carl Kemp. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl Kemp, Lorna Kemp; stepfather, Thomas Cheney.
Her Farewell… Kathy's family and friends will gather at Glen Eden Memorial West in Livonia, Michigan, on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. George Lutheran Church.
