Larry Douglas Babcock, of Hamburg Township, Michigan passed away on January 2, 2022 at the age of 72. Larry was born on April 21, 1949 in Petoskey, MI to Gordon and Reva (Jones) Babcock. He married the love of his life, Dorothy (Mifsud) Babcock (54 years) and together they raised six sons.
Larry devoted his life to God and his family and lived to serve others. Larry was a Sergeant in the United States Army (10lst and 82nd Airborne). He served from 1968 and was Honorably Discharged in June 1972. He served in the Vietnam War earning the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Expert Badge (M-16 Rifle).
Larry worked his entire professional career at Ford Motor Company as an Electrician. He started at Ford when he was 18 years old and retired after 30 years of service. He was also a proud member of the UAW Local 600. After retirement Larry worked at Christ the King Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, MI. He enjoyed his work at the church and often mentioned his years there were some of the best in his life. Larry also enjoyed attending church services regularly, golfing, hunting, fishing, and crafting stained glass in his spare time. Larry was also a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus and a Member of the Maltese American Club (Dearborn).
Along with his many hobbies, what he loved the most in this world was being around his family. He would tell you how lucky he was to be married to the love of his life for over 54 years and how incredibly proud he was of his six sons. You could always find Larry with a smile on his face and making friends everywhere he went. He would start a conversation with anyone and treated everyone like a friend. Larry always put his family ahead of himself and worked every day to provide a better life for them. Larry epitomizes what every young man inspires to be – a great husband, father, friend, and patriot. He is a hero to his family and his legacy will live on forever.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Reva Babcock; father in-law, John Mifsud. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Dorothy Babcock; children, Gordon (Lisa) Babcock, Chad (Jeanne) Babcock, Kevin (Susan) Babcock, Jason (Lindsey) Babcock, Clint (Tara) Babcock and Simon Babcock; 12 grandchildren, Mackenzie, Dylan, Samantha, Gabrielle, Sydney, Hannah, Chase, Jena, Austin, Luke, Noah and Collin; and six great grandchildren, Tristan, Salem, Blaire, Jerry, Joey and Grace. He is also survived by his mother in-law, Theresa Mifsud and his sister Maribeth Palmer.
Larry’s family and friends will gather on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 3 to 8PM at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel His Community Farewell will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10AM (9AM Gathering) Mass of Christian Burial at Christ the King Catholic Church, Ann Arbor. Fr. Ed Fride will serve as celebrant.
