His Legacy… Lawrence Emory Westphal Sr, age 85, passed away May 1, 2023. He was born on February 6, 1938 in Parshallville, MI to Emory and Sadie (Smith) Westphal. Larry grew up on a farm in Parshallville, MI and worked at Tom Walkers Grist Mill. He proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps. After his service in the military, Larry worked at Westphal Lumber and General Motors. He married Frances Sutfin on November 3, 1961 in Hartland, MI. Larry was a member of the Hartland Senior Center. In his spare time, Larry enjoyed square dancing, baking, gardening, playing euchre, and bowling. He was well known for his pineapple zucchini bread and chocolate fudge. Larry will be remembered for his baking, caring nature and always being friendly. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
His Family… Larry leaves behind his children, Lawrence “Sonny” (Maria) Westphal Jr, Tina (Dennis) Goward, Tammy (John) Manson; grandchildren, Natasha (Bryce) Goshorn, Josh Manson, Justin Klinebriel, Jackie Manson; step-grandchildren, Victoria, Stephanie, Elizabeth; and great grandchildren, Dominic, Damien, Malaya, and Mariah. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Endebrock. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Frances; and sister, Norma Manning.
His Farewell… Larry’s family and friends will gather on Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 5-8 PM at the Howell Opera House with a Celebration of Life service at 6 PM. Food will be available throughout.
