Lon Huhman Obituary

Huhman, Lon

Pinckney, MI

Lon Huhman, a man dedicated to his family, his work and beliefs, departed this life on September 11, 2025, at the age of 86, at the Chambers Farm in Pinckney.

Born on December 30, 1938, in Fullerton, Nebraska, to Frank and Margaret (Manning) Huhman, Lon’s early life would see him move as a youngster to Pinckney, Michigan, which became his hometown. He was a graduate of Pinckney High School, where he excelled in sports, including football, basketball and baseball.

It was in Pinckney where he would make his career as a barber and raise his family. After high school he briefly attended Olivet College, where he played football, but he was restless and after a friend suggested Barber College, that’s what he did. He worked his shop on the basis that a good barber was about quality cuts as well as good service, conversation and prices. In 1962, he bought his barbershop and the home behind it for $12,300 from Clare Swarthout. For him, to make a career cutting hair in a town like Pinckney was based on whether or not people like you, and for him, they did. He was a good person that could talk with anyone and bring a laugh and smile to those who stepped through his shop door.

He was well known for things such as his love for sports (the Pinckney Pirates, Michigan Wolverines, and Detroit Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings and Lions), as well as for outdoor activities like fishing, and being with family and friends. He was also a longtime fan of bowling and was a regular bowler for years at the old Pinckney Bowling Alley.

Lon is survived by his wife, Kathleen “Sue” Huhman and his children, Russ (Lanae) Chambers, Amy Vierling, Keith (Jennifer) Chambers, Rich (Laurie) Chambers, Lonnie (Anne) Huhman, Mike (Sheryl) Huhman, Dan (Katiey) Huhman and Melinda (Marty) Graverson, siblings, Betty Weirich, Patricia Huhman, Thomas (Pam) Huhman, Paul (Margie) Huhman, Jerry (Brenda) Huhman; many grandchildren and some great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janey Lewis.

A devoted follower of Jesus Christ and faithful servant of the Lord, Lon valued his beliefs and led a life of dedication and commitment to what he held most important. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, family, laughs and friendship.

A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 11 a.m. on September 22, 2025, with visitation at 10 a.m., at People’s Church in Pinckney, Michigan. Please leave a message of comfort for Lon’s family at 1-877-231-7900 or sign his guestbook at www.borekjennings.com.
