Sherwood, Loran
Hamilton, MI
His Legacy… Loran Sherwood left this world for heaven on Monday, March 9, 2020 at the age of 76. Loran was born December 12, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to Loran Wellington Wert Sherwood and Billie Jean Braidwood. Loran grew up in Mount Clemens where he met and married his high school love, Mary Ellen Sicken. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1970, completing two tours in Vietnam. After his service, he and Mary Ellen returned to Michigan to finish raising their three children, David, Chris and Wendy.
Loran is remembered for many things: his endless creativity, his ability to fix almost anything (the original MacGyver), lack of fear of any project, love of fishing and Island 10, but mostly for his servant-heart, which was the size of Lake Superior, and his endless and tireless devotion to Mary Ellen, his family and his friends.
His Family… Loran leaves behind his wife, Mary Ellen; his children, David Sherwood, Chris (Sharon) Sherwood, Wendy (Michael) Cheek; grandchildren, Ashley, Sara, Andrew, Alexandra, Bailey, Samantha, Camden, Kaedyn, Callie, Caleb; and great grandchildren, Keegan and Serenity. He is also survived by his sisters, Judy Boston, Kay Laing, and nephew, Pete Mayes. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and stepfather, Kermit Swanson. While his family and friends mourn, and the angels wept for us at his passing, heaven is rejoicing at the arrival of a truly great and amazing man. Oorah!!!
His Farewell… Loran’s Community Farewell will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 10:30AM (9:30AM gathering) at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Lamb Chapel. Father Francis George will serve as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be given to People Helping People in Pullman, MI.
