Her Legacy… Marlene Schmidt, 85, passed away August 13, 2021. She was born on February 13, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan to James Young and Rose (Le Fevre) Young. Marlene married the love of her life, Donald Schmidt, on June 29, 1957, at Assumption Grotto Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan. Marlene was a people person who loved parties and had a way of making life-long friends. She was a wonderful mother who drove her children to be successful, and was an impeccable housekeeper. Marlene was also very health-conscious, taking early morning long walks until she was 80 years old. She also loved to eat good food and had a weakness for Wendy’s hamburgers, and especially frosties. Being artistic, music was her passion, she was a master gardener, and had a talent for making beautiful flower arrangements. Marlene loved to put together puzzles, University of Michigan sports, and playing games, at which she was extremely competitive. Most especially, Marlene was very religious and service-oriented, sharing her talents at the piano with her church, where she played music for Mass every day. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and a friend to many.
Her Family… Marlene will be missed by her children, Elaine Schmidt, Donna Schmidt (Helmut Vogl), James Schmidt (Julia Mao), Catherine Schmidt (Ted Blaker), Joseph (Mindy) Schmidt; Grandchildren, Sierra Schmidt, Colton Koopman, Heidi Schmidt, Trinity Schmidt, Nicole Schmidt, Daniel Vogl; great grandson Luis Vogl. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Schmidt, and the two women who raised her, Georgina Young and Rose Young.
Her Farewell… Marlene’s family and friends will gather on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, from 3:00pm – 8:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm at Borek Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel in Hamburg, Michigan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 11:00am. (10:00 – 11:00 gathering), St. Joseph Country Church, 6805 Mast Road, Dexter, Michigan. Father Brendan Walsh will serve as Presider. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church Dexter, Michigan, or Memorial contributions may be given to family for future designation.
