Marvin Hoard Obituary

Hoard, Marvin

Pinckney, MI

His Legacy… Marvin Jack Hoard, 90, passed away December 13, 2025.  He was born on March 11, 1935, in Gregory, Michigan to Claude C. and Gertrude N. (Barbour) Hoard. Marvin attended school in Gregory/Stockbridge and served in the U.S. Navy afterwards. When he returned home from the Navy, he married Nancy E. Hoard on August 23, 1958. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008. After Nancy’s death, Marvin married Emma Christine Fesl. Marvin and “Chris” were married for thirteen years.

Marvin worked for over thirty-five years for a pharmaceutical company that underwent several name changes, including Parke-Davis, Warner-Lambert, and Pfizer. In general, he was a “Jack” of all trades, including glass blowing, home building, chemical lab work, and purchasing. He retired from Pfizer in 1997 as the head of purchasing.

Marvin’s high energy and athleticism allowed him to maintain many interests and hobbies, especially woodwork and finish carpentry. Even with a demanding career, he built homes, undertook home-improvement projects, and gardened. He always found time to jog, swim, cross-country ski, and more with his three children and his grandchildren. He skated in an ice show with his grandchildren in his 70’s. Together, Marvin and Chris organized and participated in a tennis group even in his 80’s. He was active at Community Congregational Church, in Pinckney, Michigan. He served as church moderator and as a trustee.

His Family… Marvin will be missed by his wife, Chris Hoard; his & Nancy’s children, Elizabeth (John) Hoban, Jeff Hoard, and Tracy (Andrew) Ortlieb; siblings, Nila Whitehead, Vernon (Irene) Hoard, and Stanley (Kathlene) Hoard; grandchildren, Zachery (Vanessa) Hoard, J. Patrick Hoban, Jacob (Becky) Ortlieb, Michelle Hoban, Elijah Hoard, Max Ortlieb, and Angelina Hoban; great-granddaughter, Raven; sisters-in-law, Katie Hoard and Mary Hoard; step-sons, Michael Fesl and his daughters, Amelia and Emma, Adam (Elizabeth) Fesl and their children, Evelyn, Joseph and Nathan; and numerous nieces and nephews. His grandchildren adored him and will never forget his love, fun and enthusiasm. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Hoard; parents, Claude and Gertrude Hoard; and brothers, Allan, Dean and Clinton.
