Michael Max Shields, 85, died peacefully in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on October 14, 2025.
He was born on June 1,1940, in Flint, Michigan, to David Max Shields and Frances Alexander
(McCall) Shields, and brother Joe (Marilyn). He graduated from the University of Michigan in
1966 and married the love of his life, Delores Sue Morgan, on December 17th, 1960.
Mike was a generous and loving man. His sense of humor was infectious. His dedication to
friends and family made the world a better place. Mike will be deeply missed and will live in our
hearts forever.
Mike had a strong sense of community. He was a career photography and art teacher at
Huron High School in Ann Arbor. He took great pride in nurturing a creative and aesthetic
sensibility in his students. He taught them to see the world differently and express their views
in original and artistic images.
Mike also served his community civicly by volunteering with Civitan International. He was
elected president of the Ann Arbor Civitan Club, Michigan District Governor, and International
Vice President. His accomplishments in Civitan included many community service projects,
such as local, state, and international Special Olympics.
He is survived by his children, Jon (Stacy) Shields, Brian (Laura) Shields, and Brent Shields;
Grandchildren, Alex and Austin; Great-grandchildren, Evie, Clayton, and Dublin.
Mike retired to Houghton Lake, where he loved to snowmobile, fish, golf, and BBQ for friends
and family.
Mike will be cremated and interned next to Delores in the spring of 2026.
