Orelio Montes Jr., 83, of Romulus died peacefully from cancer on May 16, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. Orelio was born in Detroit on June 27, 1936 to Aurelio and Amelia Montes. He attended Northwestern and Cass Technical High Schools in Detroit and enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 where he obtained a GED while serving from 1954 to 1957 as a Radio Operator at the U.S. Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island. Orelio subsequently attained an Electronic Engineer certification and an Associate Degree in Business Management from Central Michigan University.
Orelio married the love of his life, Ofelia in Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico in 1960. Together they raised their two children, Carlos and Marcela in Romulus.
Orelio spent most of his career working for Chrysler Automotive and subsequently General Dynamics where he ascended to the position of Supervisor. He completed his career at Northwestern Airlines where he worked until retirement.
When not working, Orelio enjoyed coaching baseball in the Romulus Youth Baseball League. He also helped launch baseball and softball teams at St. Aloysius Parish in the Catholic Youth Organization. Orelio enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in various sporting events.
Orelio was a loving husband and father and is most proud of the family legacy he has left behind. His children and grandchildren have all received college degrees and are enjoying successful professional careers.
Orelio is survived by his wife Ofelia; son, Carlos (Sandra) Montes, daughter Marcela (Dan) Loudon, grandchildren Amy, Nicholas, Laura, Annalisa and great granddaughter Elena.
Orelio was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Charlotte and Elena, and brothers Jose, and Enrique.
