Patricia Cooney Gabli passed to eternal life peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday 27th May 2026, aged 91. Born in Yonkers, New York on November 20, 1934, to Maurice (“Mo”) and Miriam Cooney. Patricia “Pat” Gabli lived a life rooted in love, service, humor, and deep connection to people. She was the kind of person who made others feel seen, remembered, and cared for. Often through a handwritten card, a warm conversation, or a simple act of kindness.
Patricia spent her early childhood in the Bronx, New York City, before moving with her family to Detroit as a young girl. She grew up on the west side of Detroit, where she built lifelong friendships and memories that shaped her joyful spirit and strong sense of community.
After graduation, Patricia joined a skating club where she met the love of her life, Joseph Gabli. Their love story began on the skating floor and continued for decades through marriage, family, hard work, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another. Pat and Joe were married on September 7, 1957, and together they built a beautiful life and home in Pinckney, Michigan.
Patricia was truly a woman of many talents, a “jack of all trades” whose work reflected both her energy and her heart for people. Throughout her life she worked in many roles, including real estate, childcare, and as a manager at Dairy Queen. She also worked for the EPA, where she coordinated the Bikes for Kids program and Operation Good Cheer. During her time there, she became known for creating a wonderful and uplifting culture club for employees, bringing joy, encouragement, and connection into the workplace.
Her servant heart extended far beyond her work. Pat was a devoted volunteer at St. Pat’s & Holy Spirit Church and was always looking for ways to care for others in her community. She loved playing cards and having picnics at the lake. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel loved. One of the ways she expressed that love was through handwritten cards, thousands and thousands of them over the years. You knew you were seen and loved when she placed $2.00 bill in your Birthday cards, encouragement cards, holiday cards, sympathy cards… Pat never missed an opportunity to remind someone they mattered.
She will be remembered for her kindness, joyful spirit, and infectious sense of humor. Pat always had a joke ready, a smile to share, and the ability to brighten the day of anyone she met. Her warmth drew people in, and her generosity left a lasting mark on countless lives.
Above all, Patricia cherished her family, friendships, faith, and community. Her legacy lives on in the many people she loved so deeply and the countless small acts of compassion she gave so freely.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
Patricia is survived; by children Kathleen Masinda, Margaret “Peg” Yurkunas( Richard) Joseph (Suzanne), Paul (Jill); by grandchildren Sarah Masinda, Ian Masinda, Alexander Gabli, Elizabeth Gabli, Grace Yurkunas, Abbigayle Gabli, Andrew Gabli, Aden Gabli, Charlie Gabli; her
