His Legacy… Peter Anthony Messina, 76, passed away January 9, 2026. He was born on February 26, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan to Anthony Messina and Vincenza “Vera” (Ciaravino) Messina. Peter married the love of his life, Linda Schimmel in February 1973 in Detroit, Michigan. He was co-owner of Peter Basile Cement Company. Peter was incredibly outgoing and knew everyone. He had a presence about him; you always noticed when he walked into a room, it instantly became brighter, louder and full of laughter. Peter was nicknamed “living large” due to his happy go lucky and fun personality. He loved the Florida sunshine where he had a home. Peter also loved the lake life that he had in Michigan. He and his wife, Linda, opened their Michigan waterfront backyard to family and friends nearly every night. Those gatherings, late evenings filled with food, drinks, stories, laughter and love, became the heartbeat of the neighborhood. Peter was always the first one to offer help whenever needed. Most of all, Peter adored his family and friends and loved spending time with them. Peter’s presence filled every space he entered, and his absence will be felt profoundly by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

His Family… Peter will be missed by his wife, Linda Messina; his siblings, JoJo Messina, Jacquelyn Ferriter, AnnMarie (Rick) Rowland; sisters-in-law, Janice Messina, Jean (Will) Trute, Pat Schimmel; Diane (Al) Leporowski, Betty (Tom) Clacher; numerous nieces & nephews; great-nieces & nephews & great-nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony & Vera Messina; brother, Frank Messina; parents-in-law, Glen and Delores Schimmel; brothers-in-law, William Schimmel, Butch Schimmel; and sister-in-law, Kathy Zalewski.

His Farewell… Peter’s family and friends will gather Monday, January 19, 2026, from 3:00PM-8:00PM, at Borek Jennings Funeral Homes, Hamburg, Michigan. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at 10:30AM (9:30AM gathering) at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Brighton, Michigan. Fr. Mathias Thelen will serve as celebrant.
