Rebecca Sue (Clayton) Munce known as Becky, passed away at Angela Hospice Waterford Care Center on Thursday, December 11, 2025, after a prolonged illness.
Becky was born in Belleville, Michigan on June 25, 1945. She was a graduate of Belleville High School Class of 1963 and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in history from Eastern Michigan University. She married her husband, Hugh Estil Munce, on June 18, 1965, in Ann Arbor, Michigan; they were married 51 years. Becky was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Brighton, Michigan
Becky found her calling advocating for those who experienced homelessness. She was dedicated to her work by empowering them with compassion and direct service, often mentoring roles in shelters, outreach, or advocacy groups emphasizing her deep commitment to affordable housing, 12-Step recovery, and dignity for unhoused individuals. Becky would open the door to her home embodying Christ’s love through radical hospitality, welcoming strangers, sharing her home, and creating growth opportunities for those in recovery. Hebrews 12:2 invites us to open our homes to strangers because we might host an angel and never know it.
Becky not only had a big heart for the homeless, but she was also a tireless advocate for the underdog in every situation. She promoted programs that affirm and support the LGBTQIA2S+ community. She was also an advocate for gender equality and women’s rights.
Following retirement, Becky served as a volunteer with Second Chance Support Network, a nonprofit mentoring program to reduce recidivism and provide mentorship to women to integrate fully in the community following release from prison.
Becky cared for numerous cats and dogs in her lifetime. Becky supported a plethora of vulnerable animal charities including the endangered Piping Plover shorebird to supporting the vulnerable polar bears with a rapid loss of sea ice habitats caused by climate change. She endorsed the use of plant-based remedies for gardening and was against the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. In her last crusade she was an advocate on behalf of the steep population declines of the monarch butterfly by planting native pollinators to provide resources necessary for monarchs. Becky’s life remains a testament to the power of advocacy in creating a fair and just world for all.
Becky had a variety of passions which included knitting, “scarf bombing” (an act of leaving handmade knitted scarves in public places when it is cold out), and WWII history.
Becky leaves behind her children, Michael Hugh Munce and Bradley Weldon Munce, as well as her grandson, Michael Clayton “Mikey” Munce. She is also survived by two nephews, a niece, several cousins, and close friends including Richard Gonzales, Penny Potts, Marlaina Warren, Dolores Fahler, Jane Rosengren, and her beloved dog Brussels.
Becky passed away after her parents, Ruby (Matevia) and Harold Clayton, and her sisters with their spouses: Eunice Ruby (Richard) VasBinder and Nancy Mae (Leon Arthur) Tucholski.
