His Legacy…Richard Franklin Ruby, 96, passed away November 24, 2025. He was born on January 8, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan to Thomas Ruby and Rachel Corinne (Monger) Ruby. Richard “Dick” married the love of his life, Marjorie “Margie” Steele, on August 20, 1949 at Old St. Patrick Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Dick will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, especially the time he spent at Horseshoe Lake and Whitmore Lake during his youth, and later for the many cherished moments shared with his family at Whitmore Lake. He lived in the same home for 76 years, a place filled with the life and love he and Margie built together before her passing 25 years ago. He and Margie were very generous in taking both their children and grandchildren camping, hiking and swimming along with family friends.
Dick’s employment over the years included: Groomes Beach, as a teenager; Automobile Equipment Company, 25 years; followed by Woodside Auto and Better Auto. He volunteered for many years at Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti.
His Family… Richard will be missed by his children, Carolyn Reed, Diane Firsch and Tom Ruby; grandchildren Eric Ruby, Amy Ruby; Deanna Koenigs, Laura Sotomayor, Sondra Reed, Krista Faith; Keith Firsch, Leah Firsch, Sarah Wells Firsch; Michael Ruby and Melody Ruby and several Great grandchildren; siblings, Rachel Luchs, Janet Merrill and Bill Ruby. He was preceded in death by wife of 51 years, Margie; his son Rick Ruby; and his bothers John Ruby and Bob Ruby.
